Many students are afraid of making a mistake or saying the wrong thing when talking with a native English speaker.

If you are a real self-starter then you don't need more than a English grammar book, dictionary and some vocabulary books to get started with English. Books could get you reading English after lots of studying, but won't help with listening comprehension or speaking.

Many people around the world have already taken English in a classroom at some point in their lives in either school or university. It's a good way to get the basics of the language, and practice all four aspects of language learning (reading, writing, speaking, and listening). However, many people find it to be rather tedious and it can be large commitment to fit these lessons into busy schedules.

Today you can learn to speak English online. Many websites provide lots of audio and video materials for language practice. These materials include podcast stories, an audio soap opera, a series of English language teaching TV programmes produced with the BBC and videos that show how to say things correctly in very different situations.

But before learning to speak English, you get to learn grammar. When you imitate other people, you're learning grammar through a process called implicit learning. This is the process where the learning happens without your awareness. This is how babies and children learn the grammar rules of their first language.
